OUTSIDE THE DEPARTAMENT

  • GENERAL COORDINATOR for the project in Oporto (Augusto Faustino): explains the project filosophy, its phases, its pedagogical orientations and its general objectives.
  • CO-RESPONSIBLE for the blended-learning part (Pablo Payo): answers doubts on the webmaster scope and of the practical realization on the blended-learning part. Answers doubts on the pedagogical strategies implicated and the formative objectives to improve.

INSIDE THE DEPARTAMENT

It is important to emphasize that this project is not based on a vertical hierarchic line. It is certain that this program has been signed by the president of the directive advice and directly assumed by the director of the University of Oporto but the background is not based on a chain of commando but on a process of collaboration. The general coordinator is not over the direct responsibles or the department responsibles. The direct responsible are not above their department responsible. It is not our responsibility to meddle neither on the nuclei nor on the departments. Quite the opposite. Our philosophy is to take advantage of the daily department activity, that was planned after a reflective process, of achieved and failed experiences of more than 10 years, to train young professors who are in the situation in which we were almost 10 years ago. During that time we have learned with our mistakes, we have found solutions to common problems and we developed and we are developing strategies that can be interesting. Only that. To work in common and with the maximum transparency possible. All of us win this way.

  • DIRECT RESPONSABLE for the Young- Teacher (for example in Dermatology Pablo Payo, on reproduction Graça, etc).  It is a voluntary professor. Supervises and cares that the formative objectives can be achieved. It is the priority point of contact of the visitor with the University of Oporto and with the JEPII program in ICBAS. Also resolves logistic problems (accommodation, alimentation, health issues, cultural visits, trips, etc) contacting with the direct responsibles of the project.
  • DEPARTAMENT RESPONSIBLE – knowledge area (Augusto Matos):

a)      Raise questions or problems on the educational and infrastructure sphere. Helps to settle as possible the logistic problems of the carrying out of the activities planned on the Young Teacher of Bosnia.

b)      Acts as a motivational guide that gets the entire group to work synergically. Is the motivation responsible of the group so that everyone work together to achieve a common goal. This function is indispensable. If the responsible, for excess of work, or other does not have the availability it is convenient to chose other person on the area that can serve as a cohesive cement, of catalyser so that everybody work on a common ground, on the same direction. This program is not that one comes to another University and the other one receives him for a while. The spirit is COLABORATION on every level (professors, clinics, technicians, assistants and students). A Young Teacher comes with the objective of knowing a system and learn an educational methodology in a limited amount of time. All the team should be involved and know very well what is expected of them, what are the objectives, when they are going to take place and how is organized the whole stance of the visiting teacher.

§         CLINICAL COLABORATORS: they are clinical personnel that carry out their activities in the nuclei at the same time that the Young Teacher’s visit takes place. Many times they carry out activities on the visiting professor’s area (dermatology consult) and in other occasions don’t (consults other than dermatology – Jorge, Liliana and Joana).

§         COLATERAL EDUCATIONAL COLABORATORS:  they are professors that carry out their activity on the centre of an specific area of the formative program but that, on some occasions, contact with the visiting teacher (Leandro Gardel and Ana Lucia in surgery, Carmo in cytology, Miguel and Augusto on internal medicine, etc.).

§         OTHER COLABORATORS (technical staff– Sr. Frias, administrative staff, etc.)

CHRONOGRAM

FIRST MEETING: (60-120 min)

GENERAL OBJETIVE: INFORMATION, FORMATION OF THE RESPONSIBLE AND PLANNING OF THE FORMATIVE PROGRAM

Meeting of the general responsibles of the JEP II in ItalyOporto with the direct responsible teacher of the Young-Teacher.

These persons are the directly implied so that everything works out. The general responsibles know the ways of solving common problems (economical, logistics, etc.) and formulate the general educational objectives of the project. Nevertheless who is going to be in permanent touch with the Young Teacher is the DIRECT RESPONSIBLE and so this is going to detect their everyday problems, the strong and week points of the project and its application in specific situations and in a specific person. The synergy between this two points (general and direct responsible) is going to be a key factor for the real affectivity of the project. It is not a vertical hierarchy chain. Its different persons that work in different aspects of a common formative project.

§         Explaining of the collaboration program, the general objectives and the specifics.

§         Helping on the formulation of a detailed formative program.

§         Fixation of a specific calendar.

§         Construction of a schedule of objectives verification.

§         Solving of doubts (technical and pedagogical) of the blended-learning program.

§         Attempt to solve logistic problems (transportation, accommodation, etc.)

SECOND MEETING (JEP II responsibles + reception core personnel personal) – 45-50 min

GENERAL OBJETIVE: INFORMATION (objetives and chronogram) AND GENERAL MOTIVATION OF THE RECEIVING PLACE

a)      JEP II responsibles explains everyone the project philosophy.

b)      JEP II responsibles explains everyone the general pedagogical part (professors and blended-learning)

c)       Direct Responsible for the Young Teacher:

    • explains the ideas and the way in which is thinking on developing the formative program
    • solicits collaboration on concrete and specific points (well delimited and detailed: for example Monday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. it would be very interesting if the Young executed the consults with the students and with the clinic, and that the consulting system where explained to him; Tuesday  Mr. Frias could explain the functioning of the analysis system, the 1st and 15th of each month we could take lunch together at 1 p.m. to analyse how are the objectives working and listen to everyone suggestions, etc.). Who wants to participate can do it, who does want to no problem. It is better few people working in a common goal but motivated that many in a forced way.

The generic objective is not to show how we make good things. It is not that. We show the way in what we have solved concrete situations, the weak points, the strong points and how it is possible to improve and where are our limitations. We do not want that when the Young Teacher arrives at Bosnia he does just like we do it here. We want that it learns an alternative way to see situations, ways to solve them and ways to improve them from the optics of people who also are educational staff and have a little more experience.
